    School Introduction

    As Beijing Normal University\'s important gateway to the world, the Chinese Language & Culture College shoulders the responsibility of teaching foreign students (including undergraduate students, long-term students and short-term students) coming to China to study Chinese language and culture. The college also fosters the native and foreign post-graduate students majoring in linguistics and applied linguistics and/or Chinese language and character study. In addition, the university provides training for teachers teaching Chinese as a second language and also promotes research in this field. The college is a comprehensive teaching and research institute, admitting more than 1,000 foreign students every year.

    There are 58 teachers and administrative personnel in the college, including 6 professors, 25 associate professors and 27 lecturers. 95% of the teaching staff has attained the Qualification Certificate for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language and the Common Spoken Chinese Grade a Certificate. The teachers here have abundant teaching experience, and many have taught abroad as well. The college has well-equipped teaching facilities, including Internet teaching laboratories, listening laboratories, audio-visual classrooms, resource libraries, etc.

    Course Description

    It aims at training overseas students with a high Chinese level, a deep understanding of Chinese culture and modern Chinese society. After graduation, they will be qualified for overseas primary –level Chinese teaching and will have enough language competence to study for Master’s Degree. Moreover, they will be highly competitive in various jobs using Chinese. The duration of study is four years. In the first two years, language skill courses are offered to improve students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities. In the third and fourth year, many professional courses such as Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese and Chinese Literature are offered with a large number of optional courses for students to choose from. Up to now, over 400 undergraduates from over 10 countries such as Korea , Japan , Russia and the United States have graduated from the College of Chinese Language and Culture.

    1. The duration of study for undergraduate students is four years. In the event that a student cannot graduate on time, studies may be prolonged for up to 2 years. Students who finish all their courses ahead of schedule may apply for early graduation on the condition that their duration of undergraduate study in BNU is no less than three years. However, they are still required to pay four years’ tuition.

    2. A bachelor’s degree will be conferred on students who have got graduation qualifications and have HSK level-9 or above certificate

Note: Applicants under the age of 18 should submit original guardian notarizations in triplicate issued by Beijing Notary Public Office.

Graduation certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization.

7. Two letters of recommendation

From professor or associate professor or equivalents

8. Letter of guarantee

The guardian should write out his/her name, nationality, occupation and address (if an organization acts as the guardian, reference to the organization should be made clear).

9. Permission from the previous university for tranfer students

A student who has studied in China and wants to transfer to another university must provide the permission from original university.
