Transportation Engineering
- General Information

    With the process of the social development and economy growth in the world, the importance of the transportation engineering in the national economy has highlighted. Due to the characteristics such as energy conservation, environmental protection, safety, comfort and large capacity, the railway and urban mass transit has gradually been developing as the main form of the ground public transportation in the future comprehensive transport network, its construction and development has broad and long-term prospects. The Master degree Program of Transportation Engineering was launched in 2016 and welcomed its first intake at the same year with the strong support of international academic partners and Chinese industrial partners of Tongji University. The Program will benefit from the faculty and excellent resources of Tongji University (China), Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (ENPC, France; the first engineering school in France and one of the top grande école), University of Illinois Champaign (UIUC, USA; one of the top engineering universities in USA) and University of Huddersfield (UK). The outstanding Rail Test Line and combined experiment laboratory of Tongji University will strongly support the Program. And the well-known enterprises (CRRC, CRCC, Siemens, Alstom, RATP, Shanghai Railway Bureau, Shanghai Shentong Group, Hong Kong Subway, etc.) will provide internship opportunities, scholarships, lectures and other sponsoring.

    Basic Requirements

    Thesis Requirements: The research proposal of the thesis for master degree will be chosen before the end of the second semester of the first academic year. The redaction of thesis and the related research work should be done according to the standards of Tongji University and of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. The Master degree of Tongji University will be granted to the students who will have passed their thesis defense.

- Requirement

1. A minimum score of 80 on the internet based TOEFL is required. For the IELTS, a minimum score of 6.0 is required. These scores are not required for those who have the relevant certificate from a university whose classes were primarily taught in English.

2. Background: Bachelor of Science or Engineering

3. Provide notarized Bachelor degree diploma and both notarized and original transcript of the undergrad courses. . Certificate in language other than Chinese or English needs to provide the notarized Chinese or English translation.

4. Provide study and research plan in China (not less than 800 words), and the plan can be written in Chinese or English.

5. Provide two letters of recommendation from associate professor or those who have equivalent professional titles as associate professor or above.

6. Language Requirements:

  • For English native speakers: no specific requirements
  • For Non-English native speakers: fluent in reading, writing and speaking with 80 or above for TOEFL, 6.0 or above for IELTS, or other English level certificates

4. College graduation certificate and academic transcript

Documents in languages (other than Chinese or English) must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.

5. English proficiency test certificate

80 or above for TOEFL; or 6.0 or above for IELTS; or other certificates which can prove that English is your native language or the working language.

6. Recommendation letters

By two associate professors or professionals of associate professor level.

7. A letter of motivation

Reasons for applying for this program, no less than 800 words.

8. College educational background or equivalent

And majors in environment, energy, chemical engineering, urban planning or economy and management etc.
